Symptoms

The Nintendo Switch has been one of the greatest portable gaming devices to have been released. Unfortunately it has a small flaw that can cause it to overheat or stop charging the joycons. There are external joycon chargers that you can buy to confirm that the problem is not with the joycon but in these next simple steps, I will walk you through potential solutions to help you get back to Animal Crossing or The Legend of Zelda and quick as you can.

Is There a Temporary Fix?

1. If your Switch is overheating then the first thing that you should check is to make sure that the heatpipe at the top of the device is not obstructed. Be careful with the black plastic as it is easy to break. If you see any lint or plastic that is obstructing the heat pipe then it should be quick and easy to remove.

2. Make sure to also charge up your Nintendo Switch while the joycons are plugged in. If you already have an external charger for your joycons then you can test whether they can take a charge to confirm your problem.

3. You can check if the joycons are charging by pressing the small black button on the side of the joycons. That way you can see if the battery percentage is increasing or decreasing.

How to Permanently Fix

If you still can not hear the fan spinning or feel the air coming out from the heatpipes then it is possible that your fan might need to be replaced. If you are not able to charge up your joycons and the fan is also not spinning then you most likely have a logic board problem.
