Symptoms

The iPhone XS and XS Max are known to have this problem after a hard drop or a back glass replacement. Fortunately there are a couple of steps that you can try before taking your phone to a repair shop. It can be easy to mistake "no sound on calls" with "no sound at all" so make sure to open up a Youtube video to test your loudspeakers or try to record a voice memo to test your microphones to narrow down the problem. If no one can hear you and you can not hear them within a call but your speakers make noise any other time then we might have the fix for you!

Is There a Temporary Fix?

1. Check to make sure that you have cell service. If your signal is very weak then it can cause all kinds of problems when making calls. A hard drop or impact can disconnect the sim card causing poor cell service.

2. The next obvious thing that you should try on your iPhone whenever something is not working is to turn it off and then back on again. Sometimes a drop or impact can cause a quick disconnect that can be fixed by a simple restart.

3. If you can hear the other person on the line but they can not hear you then you might simply have a microphone issue. Check to make sure that nothing is obstructing or blocking the small circles at the bottom of the phone. Some of the holes are for your microphone and some are for your loudspeaker.

4. Lastly there are a couple of programs that can be used to take the phone out of recovery mode. One that we recommend is called 3U tools. Once the program recognizes the iPhone then there will be an option to "Exit recovery mode"
