Symptoms

The iPhone X is known to have a common flaw that would cause it to turn off and then not turn back on when trying to press the power button. If your phone is not responding to any screen touches or button clicks then it is important to know what happened before the phone turned off. Did the phone get very hot before it shut off or was there any liquid or moisture that could have caused internal liquid damage? There are many other issues that could cause this problem but the following steps should help you narrow down the problem and your issue might be fixed with the simplest of solutions!

Is There a Temporary Fix?

1. Plug your phone in to check if your phone recognizes a charging cable. It is important to use a good quality cable and not a cheap gas station cable because they might not make a good connection with the charging port. Your iPhone X should show a battery logo without the charging cable if the phone recognizes the charger. If the charging cable icon does not go away when you plug in the cable then you might have some dirt or lint that isn't allowing the charger to make a good connection. Clean out the charging port if that is the case.

2. If your iPhone still has not turned on after letting it charge for about an hour then the phone might be detecting the charging cable but it is not allowing the phone to charge. The next step would be to restart your phone with a combination of buttons. This will not delete any of your data. It will only soft reset the phone.

3. Click and release the volume up button on the left side of the phone

4. Then click and release the volume down button on the left side of the phone

5. Finally press and hold the power button on the right side of the phone. After about 3-5 seconds, the Apple logo should appear.

6. As a last resort, your phone could be in a Device Firmware Upgrade mode or DFU. Plug your phone into a computer to see if the computer detects the phone. If your computer detects the iPhone then open iTunes to update the phone. If the update fails then do not restore the phone if the data is important!
